For a newcomer into the world of wine, the information out there can be quite intimidating. What should you drink with red meat, what about pasta or what about fruit? The best way to learn about wine is just jump in and start experimenting but if you want to learn about wine from the view point of a wine enthusiast there are several ways to accomplish that.

Start learning about your own likes and dislikes by trying many different wines with different food pairings. When you are in the grocery store picking up dinner grab a couple of different bottles off the shelf and try them out. When you dine out at a restaurant sample different wines by the glass and keep track of which ones you liked and which ones you didn’t.

Join a wine club at a local vineyard or online wine shop. This is a great way to sample a different wine each month and many times the wine will come with information about where it was made and the history behind it and the company who made it. There are many different wine clubs that specialize in red wine, white wines, port wines, etc. Try to find one that provides a variety of all the different styles of wine.

Gather some friends up who also like wine and host your own wine tasting. Ask everyone to bring their favorite bottle of wine and be prepared to give a little 1-2 minute introduction on the wine, its history and where they found it. Have water and bread to cleanse the palate between each wine tasting. Ask everyone to share their experiences with the wine and notice its qualities.

Look for informational websites online that provide you with the tools you need to learn about wine. You can start by going to Google.com and doing a search for “Learn about Wine”. Be prepared to spend plenty of time on these websites as these can be an astronomical resource to you for learning about wine.
